Susan Murphey
Ms. Murphey is the founder and President of Essential Ergonomics, LLC. Previously, she co-founded and served as Director of Operations of Sound Ergonomics, LLC. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in diagnostic ultrasound along with certification as an Ergonomics Evaluation Specialist and Ergonomic Compliance Director and extensive training in Work Injury Prevention and Workplace Ergonomics.
Prior to entering the field of diagnostic ultrasound, Ms. Murphey worked for several years in the laboratory medicine and physical therapy professions. Over a span of more than 20 years in Diagnostic Imaging, she has performed, echocardiography, vascular, neonatal, musculoskeletal, general ultrasound and Computed Tomography.
She is a published author and international speaker in ergonomics and work wellness programs. Her concern for work related injury among sonographers was expressed in her testimony to a panel of OSHA representatives during a hearing on occupational ergonomics in April 2000, and again in written testimony submitted to the Labor Secretary hearings in 2001. Ms. Murphey was content expert and session chair of the 2003 Consensus Conference and was instrumental in the writing of the Industry Guidelines for the Prevention of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders in Sonography.
She is a member of the Society for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Association of Occupational Health Professionals in Healthcare, Washington L&I Roundtable and Current President of Puget Sound Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.
